About Steve Lawson

Dr Steve Lawson is an internationally regarded solo bassist, improvisor, composer and teacher. He has been teaching bass for over three decades, and has lectured in Universities and music schools throughout Europe and the US, including Salford University, The Guildhall, BIMM, The Academy Of Contemporary Music, ICMP, UHI, Leeds Beckett, Leicester College, Duquesne University (Pittsburgh), Belmont Uni (Nashville), the Musicians’ Institute, Den Rytmiske Højskole (Denmark), The Academy of Music And Sound (Exeter, Southampton, Birmingham, Swindon, Gateshead and Edinburgh), LAMA, and has taught degree, masters and PHD students from Middlesex, York, Thames Valley and Brunel Universities.

He currently lectures at BIMM in Birmingham, is the bass specialist at Musical-U, and has recorded a number of courses for ScottsBassLessons.com.

His private students have included members of bands from across the musical map, from solo artists to death metal bassists, punk players to avant garde improvisors. He still teaches privately via Zoom. Click here for information.

As a solo artist he has performed through the UK, Europe and the US, at venues ranging from the Royal Albert Hall to the Knitting Factory in LA, and has released a staggering 160 solo and collaborative albums, the majority of them through his ground-breaking Bandcamp Subscription offering.
